The Ngorongoro conservation Area is located about 180 kms from Arusha. It covers an area of 8,288 km² and is famous for having the World's Largest Caldera!

As of the year 2001, the crater had a dense population of lions numbering about 62. Other wild animals that can be found at Ngorongoro include the leopards, hartebeest, spotted hyenas, jackals, elephants and buffaloes.

During the wildebeest migration, huge number of wild animals pass through the crater including more than 1 million wildebeests. The Ngorongoro Crater is about  2,001 ft deep and its floor covers an area of 260 km².
